A little about Isla Del Sol, St. Pete area
History of Isla Del Sol
The story of Isla Del Sol began in 1957 when the Florida Department of Transportation constructed the Pinellas Bayway. This 8-mile roadway system, with its three bridges, connected Isla to the Gulf Beaches, Tierra Verde, and Fort De Soto on Mullet Key. These connections made the development of the island possible.
Once the island was created, the City of St. Petersburg Environmental Development Commission approved the site plan for 600 of the proposed 4,300 units. Eventually, the plan was scaled back to the 3,200 households that make up Isla Del Sol today.
If you haven’t yet explored Isla Del Sol, take a leisurely drive along the Pinellas Bayway. You’ll quickly see why this island is considered a tropical paradise.
